Point And Pray

Sometimes things catch your eye.

Signs are usually things we pay little or no attention to. Especially when you see it every day. You become so used to seeing it that you no longer notice it. Then someone will come along and see it for the first time and will notice all of the things you noticed the first time you saw it but now take for granted. Sometimes it takes a different pair of eyes to remind you how cool something is. I experience this whenever someone is visiting from out of town.

Last July I got to play tourist in Manitou Springs, CO. While walking around downtown I happened to notice this particular sign for one of a myriad of gift stores. The camera I happened to have with me was my Diana F+, which I lovingly refer to as my "point and pray" camera because you never know what you're going to get.

For this shot, I dont think I even bothered looking through the viewfinder (pics never come out the way I plan with this camera). I basically just aimed it at the sign. I did notice the American flag in the background, but just figured I would'nt capture it the way I had hoped. To my delight, the shot came out pretty much as I envisioned it...a feat I haven't quite mastered with the Diana. I got lucky. Very lucky.
