Look For Good Light

 You have to go where the good light is...

It might have a pretty background, but if you take a photo in full sun, it's pretty much guarenteed the results won't be favorable. Look for shade and soft light if you really want something that looks nice. 

Harsh highlights on someones face will ruin any photo. You may want a shot with mountains or the ocean in the background, but when you do see nice light, be sure to take advantage of it.
