Holga: First Impressions

My toy camera craze naturally led me from the Diana F+ to the Holga. These cameras seem to go hand in hand in a lot of ways. Both made up mostly of plastic, both use 120 film, both known for their lo-fi output, unpredictability and lack of sophistication.

My first roll in the Holga was black and white, and I ventured down to the Square in McKinney to take a few shots and learn how to use the camera.

Compared to the Diana, the Holga seems controllable and easy to manipulate. I didn't really have any issues with composition. This is in part due to the viewfinder being next to the lens rather than above it.

There are also two pieces of foam rubber that holds the film rolls in place and rolling tight....an issue that cost me a roll of film in the Diana and severe light leaks in another.

My adventures in Lomography continue...
