Move your position to change your perspective

When composing a photograph its important to remove what's unwanted from frame. I don't mean Photoshopping out an object you couldn't physically move. I mean you move...getting into a different position and recomposing can give you a completely different perspective of what you're trying to photograph.

Directly following my daughters recent piano recital, there were 15 other families trying to get photos of their children who also performed. With lots of people around the room and flashes going off everywhere, I needed to move to a position where I could keep everyone else out of the frame and also show more of the big room. At one point everyone had congregated to one side of the room so I was able to get this shot.

The photo says she's the only one in the room playing to empty seats, but that's far from what was actually happening. There were other families waiting for their turn to photograph their child at the piano. Moving to the position I was in kept people out of the frame and also allowed me to visualize the scene differently.

I just wish I could've moved that big video screen.
