Connections

A much overlooked aspect of portrait photography is the subjects connection to something else. Not a loved one exactly, but an object, a pet, a hobby, etc. The key is to photograph the connection, not the football player posing with the football.

Connections children have can be very special because often they don't last too long. Kids usually lose interest or become more interested in something else. As a parent, I know it can be a cherished memory worth preserving.

In a photo, a real connection needs to be captured while it's actually happening. This can't always be acheived in a photographers studio. Sometimes you need to go where the action is.
